World Airways provided charter airline service, military flights, and more continuously since its founding in 1948 until the company closed its doors in 2014. Come see the evolution and history of World Airways, a company which found its start here in Oakland, at the new Oakland Aviation Museum World Airways Exhibit.

Explore the range of charter service, and learn the stories of the those that airline impacts. The photos and bag of a military soldier in Vietnam, the carry on of a World Airways Flight attendant, a case of items from Operation Babylife and the suitcase of the company's founder, Edward J. Daly.

The Beginning of World

Originally offering passenger service between New York and San Juan with a fleet of three ex-Pan American World Airways Boeing 314 Clipper flying boats. Entrepreneur Edward J. Daly, however, is thought of as World's founder bought the airline in 1950 for $50,000. In 1962, World became the first U.S. charter airline to enter the jet age with the acquisition of new Boeing 707s.
